Girls Who Conduct is excited to announce the partnership with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for a two-day in-person training program in Atlanta. Participants will have access to ASO open rehearsal, ASO concert, panel discussions with musicians, Symphony Hall backstage tour, and conducting clinics.

We offer two tiers of participation:

  • Spectators: participation of all events (including a ticket to the ASO concert on 25, 8pm) and observing the conducting clinics: open to EVERYONE of all genders above the age of 16.
  • Conductors: participation of all events + conducting at the clinics: open to 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻-𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 of all ages and nationalities.

Arrival of participant

1 pm: Welcome Meeting – The role of an assistant conductor and how to take notes

2-4 pm: ASO Open Rehearsal

4:30-5:30 pm: Q&A with guest conductor Lina Gonzalez-Granados

5:45-7:30 pm: Conducting Masterclass with piano, led by guest conductor Lina Gonzalez-Granados
Repertoire: Beethoven Symphonies

7:45-8:15 pm: Symphony Hall Backstage Tour

8:30-9:30 pm: Rehearsal Note & Conducting Resume Discussion

Apr. 25 (Thu) 

11:00-12:15 pm:  “Finding Rhythmic Vibrancy in Micro Phrasing & Embellishments” in Mozart Piano Concerto with pianist Ling-Ju Lai

12:30-1:20 pm: Panel Discussion with ASO musicians

1:30-3:30 pm: Conducting clinic session: Strum (with a string quartet of ASO players)

4-5 pm: ASO Library tour

5-7 pm: One-on-one video review & resume feedback

Spectator (non-conducting) Participation
SPECTATORS:
WHO:
Conductor, Conducting student, Music educator, Music student, Music lovers. Recommended age: 16 and above.
  Purchase your ticket through Eventbrite for admission to all events, including panel discussions, backstage tour, conducting clinics obsercation, ASO rehearsal, and ASO concert on Apr. 25 at 8pm. Open to EVERYONE of all genders.

Student Admission: $25

Conductor Participation
WHO:
Women, women-identifying and non-binary conductors of all ages and nationalities

APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 12, 2024.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; early application is highly recommended.

  • Beethoven Symphony No.1, mvts 1&4, Symphony No.2, mvt. 1 (with piano)
FEE: $450 (scholarship available)

  • Two video links of you conducting any type of ensemble (instrumental or vocal) of contrasting styles. Please upload the videos, camera facing conductor, to any platform of your choice (such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Youtube, Vimeo, etc) WITHOUT PASSWORD PROTECTION.
  • There is NO application fee.
Scores, travel and accommodations are the responsibility of the participant.

Atlanta Symphony Hall is located within the Woodruff Arts Center on the corner of 15th and Peachtree Streets in the heart of Midtown.
